Gullabir Mandir Baharaich
Shri Devi Gullabir Temple has been established since ancient times.
The temple of Sridevi Gullabir located in Salarganj area of Bahraich city is the center of deep faith of the people as a proven place.
Sheetala Mata has been present in the huge temple complex since ancient times. During Navratri, a huge crowd of devotees gather in the court of the mother who has miraculous effects. There is a tradition of collectively offering Halwa along with a pan to the Mother Goddess by various sections of the society.
According to belief, the history of Sridevi Gullabir Temple is older than the Rishi clan conference organized by Brahma at Anarkali Lake in mythological times. It is said that Hanuman ji, who had come to protect the sage clan conference, had gone to the place of Shitala Mata situated at some distance from the lake. Impressed by the supernatural power of the mother’s place, Hanuman ji remained engrossed there. Seeing Hanuman ji’s mood, Brahma ji installed him there in the form of Gullabeer. Since then, Hanuman ji is present here along with Mother Shitala as the protector and first worshiper of the city. The importance of the temple can be gauged from the fact that every newborn child of the city is first brought to Shri Devi Gullabir Temple and given the blessings of Mother Sheetala and Hanuman ji. After the first wedding invitation and marriage, the first thing the newly married couple does is to bow their heads at Sridevi Gullabir Temple. Temples of Vaishno Mata, Mahalakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Lalita Mata are also established in the complex spread over about 50 bighas. People suffering from measles, smallpox and mental illnesses are benefited by doing service in the court of Lalita Mata. The Chairman of Shri Ram Leela Committee, which is looking after the management of the temple, said that the construction work has been going on here continuously for the last decade. Shanidev temple is also being constructed. He told that on the occasion of Navratri, devotees of Goddess offer Halwa along with the pan in the court of Mother Goddess for their wishes. Thousands of devotees gather on Ashtami and Navami. After Holi, a fair of Aatho is also organized.
