Haleshwar place is associated with Ramayana period

Haleshwar Nath Mahadev, located in Fatehpur Girmisani adjacent to the city, is very kind. Baba fulfills all the wishes of the people who come here and pay obeisance. Since this Shivalinga was established by King Janak himself and Ram Janaki had worshiped this Shivalinga, hence its importance increases. It was from this very place that while plowing, Mother Sita was born from the earth in Punaura and the shadow of famine ended from the area.In such a situation, farmers perform Jalabhishek of Baba Haleshwar Nath for the prosperity of the area. People perform Jalabhishek of Baba Haleshwar Nath for happiness, prosperity, peace, prosperity, son, marriage and to avoid untimely death. Devotees keep coming to Haleshwar place, located at a distance of about seven kilometers from Sitamarhi city, throughout the year for darshan and Jalabhishek. But in the month of Sawan, the area keeps resonating with the slogan of Har Har Mahadev.Lakhs of people gather here every month. A group of Kanwariyas come to perform Jalabhishek of Haleshwar Nath Mahadev by taking water from Bagmati river from Nunthar mountain and Suppi Ghat of neighboring country Nepal. Apart from different areas of the district, a large number of people also come here from districts like Shivhar, East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Madhubani etc.

During Sawan, Mundan, puja, Ashtyam, bhajan and kirtan etc. take place here. This temple is not only a symbol of public faith but also every wish of those who come here and pray is fulfilled.

What is the history: Haleshwar Place: Janaki’s birthplace, a very ancient temple of Lord Shiva located in Fatehpur Girmisani village, seven km north of Sitamarhi city. Here there is a Shivalinga which is more ancient and rare than Rameshwar in the south. The Shivalinga established here was established by Mithila king Raja Janak. According to the Puranas, this area was under Mithila kingdom.

Once there was a famine in entire Mithila. There was panic among the people for water. Then on the advice of sages, King Janak performed Haleshti Yagya to get relief from famine. Before starting the Yagya, King Janak reached Girmisani village from Janakpur and established the amazing Shivalinga here. Pleased with the worship of King Janak, Lord Shiva appeared with Mother Parvati and blessed him.King Janak started plowing from this place and covered a distance of seven kilometers and reached Punaura village of Sitamarhi, where Mother Janaki appeared from the earth from the end of the plough. With this it started raining heavily and famine ended from the area. King Janak had a deep connection with this Shivalinga. It is said that there was a tunnel from the sanctum sanctorum of this Shivalinga to the river, through which Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati used to bring water to perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev. Its mark is still there in the temple. The Shivalinga established here is amazing and older than Rameshwaram in the south. Mother Janaki and Lord Shri Ram, returning to Ayodhya after marriage from Janakpur, also worshiped this Shivalinga. According to the ancients, Lord Shiva himself appeared at this place and taught weapons to Parashurama. It is also mentioned in the Puranas. The faith associated with this temple has remained intact among the people for centuries. Knowledgeable people say that the temple was constructed in the 17th century.

The temple was damaged in the earthquake of 1942. After that no one cared about the temple. Forest and grass had grown here. Later, the then DM Arun Bhushan Prasad renovated this temple with the inspiration of Bhole Nath.

What is the offering: Devotees do not have to pay any extra expense to get the blessings of Baba Haleshwar Nath. Dhatura, hemp and belpatra are offered to Baba. Apart from this, some people offer milk to Baba. Since they were established to provide relief from famine, the people of the area also offer crops.
