How did Mother Anjana get freedom from the monkey incarnation…
Brahma Ji had thousands of maids in his palace,
one of whom was Anjana.
Pleased with Anjana’s service, Brahma asked her to ask for any boon she desired.
Anjana hesitantly told him, “She is under a curse from an ascetic sage. If possible, please free her from it.”
Brahma told her, “Tell him about the curse. Who knows, he might be able to free them from it.”
Anjana began telling him her story.
Anjana said, “When I was a child, I saw a monkey performing penance. It was a great surprise to me. So, I started throwing fruits at the ascetic monkey.”
This was my only mistake, because he was not an ordinary monkey but an ascetic sage.
I disturbed his penance, and in anger, he cursed me, saying, “Whenever I fall in love with someone, I will turn into a monkey.”
After I pleaded and apologized profusely, the sage said,
“Despite my monkey-like face, that man’s love for me will not diminish.”
After telling her story, Anjana said, “If Lord Brahma could free her from this curse, she would be very grateful.”
Lord Brahma told her, “To be freed from this curse, Anjana must go to Earth and live there, where she will be reunited with her husband.
After giving birth to an incarnation of Shiva, Anjana will be freed from this curse.”
Obeying Brahma, Anjana went to Earth and began living as a hunter.
In the forest, she saw a strong young man fighting a lion and became attracted to him.
As soon as the man’s eyes fell on Anjana, her face turned like that of a monkey.
Anjana began to cry loudly. When the young man approached her and asked the reason for her suffering, Anjana, hiding her face, told him that she had become ugly.
Anjana had seen the strong young man from a distance, but when she looked closer, she realized that his face also resembled that of a monkey.
Introducing himself, the man said,
“He is none other than the monkey king Kesari, who can transform into a human whenever he wishes.”
Anjana’s monkey-like face couldn’t stop them from falling in love, and Kesari and Anjana married in the forest.
Being devotees of Lord Shiva, Kesari and Anjana were engrossed in penance for their deity.
Pleased with their penance, Shiva asked them to ask for a boon. Anjana told Shiva that-
“To be freed from the sage’s curse, she must give birth to an incarnation of Shiva; therefore, Shiva should be born from her womb in the form of a child.”
“So be it,” Shiva said, and disappeared.
One day after this incident, Anjana was worshipping Shiva, while in another corner, King Dasharatha, along with his three queens, was performing a yajna to conceive a son.
Agni Deva gave him divine “payas” (a drink) which was to be fed to the three queens.
But during this time, a miraculous event occurred. A bird took a small amount of the kheer from the bowl in its claws and dropped it into the hands of Anjana, who was engaged in meditation.
Anjana accepted it, thinking it to be a prasad from Shiva, and shortly after, she gave birth to Hanuman, who had the monkey face.
After the birth of Hanuman ji, Anjana gets relief from the curse!!
