Importance of posture in worship
(Sanatan Dharma and Culture)
The Sanatan Dharma scriptures are a complete science in themselves, and there is nothing inherently wrong with them. The reach of the Sanatan scriptures is so divine and infinite that modern science cannot even imagine. There is a complete science behind even the smallest objects in Sanatan culture, scriptures, and traditions.
We all perform pujas at home, sitting on a seat. However, there are some specific rules for performing asanas, which not everyone is aware of. Therefore, we use any seat for any puja. However, in reality, certain asanas are considered appropriate for puja, such as:
Why is it important to spread a mat?
The scientific reason behind this is the earth’s magnetic force, or gravitational force. When a devotee meditates and chants a specific mantra, a positive energy is generated within them. If a mat is not spread, this energy is absorbed into the earth due to gravity, and you cannot derive any benefit from it. Therefore, spreading a mat during worship is considered essential. However, the mat should be a poor conductor of energy.
Do not use these mats.
The question arises as to which seat is appropriate for worship. Nowadays, many mats made of plastic, carpets, and other materials are sold in the market. However, these are not considered scripturally acceptable.
3. The Best Seat
A blanket seat is the best, and a Kusha seat is considered the purest and most sacred. Chanting mantras while sitting on a Kusha seat yields infinite benefits. Kusha and blanket seats do not accept the merits or demerits of others. Therefore, they are considered the best seats.
4. Do not use someone else’s seat.
According to the rules of asana, it should always be your own. Never use another person’s asana, nor should you lend yours to someone else. This is because each person’s state of mind is different, and the impact of that state of mind remains on the asana. Using another person’s asana will also affect you. Therefore, if possible, bring your own asana with you when you go out.
5. Colors also matter
For regular worship, use a red, yellow, or white seat. However, if you are to perform a specific spiritual practice, the color of the seat should be chosen accordingly. Yellow seat is considered best for attaining peace, wisdom, knowledge, and meditation. To enhance power, energy, and strength, use a red seat when chanting mantras.
A black seat is used in the worship of Mahakali and Bhairava. In the worship of enemies, black and red seats are also used, depending on the mantra.
Kush seating is difficult to find these days, so a blanket seat is best for general worship.
Leaving your seat is also wrong.
Leaving your seat after worship is also considered wrong. Before getting up, pour two drops of water on the ground, then bow to the earth. Then, apply the water to your forehead. After this, lift your seat and place it back in its place. By doing this, you will reap the full benefits of your meditation.
Performing any worship or prayer according to the rules prescribed in the scriptures ensures its full benefits.
