Karna Temple

You all must be knowing about Karna of Mahabharata period, but do you know that there is also a temple of Karna. This temple of Danveer Karna is situated in Karnaprayag of Chamoli. It is believed that this place was named Karnaprayag after the name of Karna. The temple of Danveer Karna is situated here near Alaknanda and Pindar rivers. A grand fair is organized here every year on the day of Krishna Janmashtami. All the devotees who come to the temple believe that every wish made with a true heart is fulfilled here.

It is believed that the place where the temple of Danveer Karna is built today in Karnaprayag was once under water and there only a corner of a stone called Karna Shila was seen protruding out of the water. Whereas, according to another legend, Karna had worshiped his father Suryadev at this very place. Then Lord Surya was pleased with Karna’s penance and granted him impenetrable armor-rings and an inexhaustible bow. It is also said that Karnaprayag is the place where Lord Krishna buried Karna after his death.

Religious goddesses used to protect Karna

According to the belief, during the Mahabharata war, when Arjun had badly injured Karna, then Shri Krishna realized that Karna was not dead. Because Karna is being protected by the religious goddesses. Shri Krishna had told that Karna had done many religious activities throughout his life.  Killing Karna will be possible only if the goddesses do not protect him. After which Shri Krishna came in the guise of a Brahmin and took away all the good deeds of Karna in charity. The result was that Karna did not have even a single good quality left and the goddesses of religion left him. Then Karna died. At the time of his death, Karna had asked Shri Krishna to bury him, after which Karna was cremated in Karnaprayag itself.
