Koteshwar Mahadev Mandir Rajpipla Gujarat

There is a legend that a demon named Gajasur did penance for Lord Shiva for nine years, but due to not getting the boon, he started harassing all the sages. The sages remembered Lord Vishnu and told him their problems. As per the orders of Lord Vishnu, Lord Garuda fought with Gajasur for nine days and on the tenth day he got salvation by dismembering his body parts. After attaining salvation, Gajasura took refuge in Lord Shiva. As per the orders of Lord Shiva, Gajasur established two Shivalingas. The first Shivalinga is Garudeshwar where Gajasur was killed and the second is Koteshwar where his head fell.
Koteshwar Temple is located 18 km from Rajpipla. A black colored Shivalinga is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
