Lord Lakulish Shiva Temple-Kayavarohan
Lord Lakulish Shiva Temple is located at Kayavarohan also known as Karvan is small village in Vadodara district, Gujarat.It is very famous pilgrimage place from all the Hindu Yuga like Satyuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapar Yuga and Kaliyuga. It is believed that Shivlinga at Kayavarohan Shiva Temple was installed by the great sage Rishi Vishwamitra during the Treta Yuga in Ramaavatar time.
As Kashi is far away from Gujarat, thus Kavyarohan gets the same status as Kashi of Gujarat.
This Shivlinga represent the formless, unique and incarnation of Lord Shiva in form of meditating yogi. Kayavarohan is the place where Lord Lakulish, 28th incarnation of Lord Shiva was born. Thus this is ancient spiritual place for followers of Pashupati and Lord Shiva, and devotee worshipped Lord Lakulish. Thus this temple is also known as Lakulisha Temple.
Legend
As per Shaivite mythology, Lord Shiva in the Lakulish manifestation appeared at this place. According to mythology and puranas, from here Lord Shiva transmigrated into the form of a Brahmin child. Thus the place came to be known as Kayavarohan [Kaya (Body) + Avarohan (Descent) = Where the body of the Lord has descended]. It is an ancient town believed to have existed through each of the Four Ages according to the Hindus. According to a popularly held belief, it was from here that Lord Shiva in the guise of a child transmigrated after death and his body disappeared. Thus the place came to be known as Kayavarohan.
Maha Shivratri is most famous festival in Kayavarohan. During the sacred day, hundreds of men wear Lord Mahadev’s attire and appear at the temples.
