Kauleshwari Hills and Temple
Situated at an altitude of 1750 feet above sea level, the famous Maa Kauleshwari temple complex, 6 kilometers away from Hunterganj block, is a recognized pilgrimage site since the Vedic period. Here on the top of the mountain there is a meeting of all three religions. Sanatan is considered to be the meeting place of Buddhism and Jainism. During the Mahabharata period, this place was the capital of King Virat.The pious king Virat had installed the statue of Maa Kauleshwari here. From then till today, Maa Kauleshwari has remained the center of faith of the people. This holy place is also associated with the epic period and ancient times. The followers of Sanatan religion have been performing the rituals of marriage and shaving of children along with worship here for centuries. For the followers of Buddhist religion, Kauleshwari mountain is a holy place to attain salvation along with the penance land of Lord Buddha.
