Mrityunjay Mahadev Mandir is located in the holy city of Varanasi. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva protects all the followers from unnatural death. According to the ancients, People who visit the mandir for forty Mondays continuously and perform Maha Mrityunjay Path get solutions to all their problems. People affected with fatal planetary diseases in their horoscope perform Maha Mrityunjay Jaap at this place and many followers have succeeded in their prayers.

History:

The holy temple of Kashi is devoted to Mrityunjay Mahadev The God Who Triumphs over Death. According to the people, the Shivling is self-manifested. Some people say that the Mrityunjay Mahadev Temple was constructed in the 18th century on the other hand some say that it was constructed thousands of years ago. It is said that Dhanvantari, The Father of Ayurveda and Avatar of Lord Vishnu poured all his medicines into this immemorial well. Therefore the water of this place is sacred and is able to cure many diseases. Some people also say that the water is a mixture of several underground water streams and has supernatural effects for curing diseases. Other deities in the temple are Lord Hanuman established by Goswami Tulsi Das, Nageshwar Mahadev, a Deity of Mata Lakshmi and Mata Kali, a temple of Maha Kaleshwar, a Deity of Stang Bhairava.

Significance:

According to Hinduism, the temple belongs to the God who conquers death i.s. Lord Shiva. While going from Darangar towards Kalbhairav mandir one can see the Mrityunjay Mahadev Mandir. Lord Mahadeva removes all sorrows of the devotees. There is an important place just beside the temple, named as the ‘Well of Medicinal Water’. It is an old well also known as ‘koop’. It is believed that water has a therapeutic effect on people. It is also said that bathing in the ancient well removes all diseases.

Puja and Rituals:

The temple is open from 04:00 am to 12:00 pm and aarti is performed three times at 05:30 am, 06:30 pm, and 11:30 pm. The doors of the sanctum sanctorum may remain closed at times of Shringar. There is no entry fee in the temple and everyone is accepted. The priest offers Mrityunjay jaap all the time and people can also offer Mrityunjay jaap anytime.

Festivals:

Maha Shivratri and Shrawanmas are the festivals celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion. People from all over the world visit the holy place to seek blessings from Lord Shiva and take water from the sacred well. Other than this Prodosh and Dev-Diwali fast are celebrated among the local people. This well known Shiva festival is celebrated in the month of Maagha on the new moon day. This festival is celebrated to worship Lord Mahadeva. The specialty of this festival is the participation of Naga Babas.
