Manaparai Nallandavar Temple

Manaparai Nallandavar Temple is a Perumal temple located in Manaparai suburb of Tiruchirappalli district in Tamil Nadu.Nallandavar temple is more than two thousand years old. Nallandavar is the main deity of this temple. The main tree of the temple is a wild lightning tree.

It is said that during the Ramayana, when Sita told Rama to capture the deer, Sri Rama shot the deer and killed it. Bending means tilting. The ancient people called this area Manboondi Seemai, so this area is called Manbundi Talam. Although history says that this name has came to be known as Maruvi Mamundi Lord Temple, it is said that this temple is also related to the history of a person named Manbundi Vallal who lived in this area earlier.

King Manbundi who ruled the region was a warrior with strength and magical powers. He was a good ruler and saved the people of the region from robbers and wild animals. Once the Saptha kanyas came to bathe in the pool located on the northern side of the temple. Then a group of slanderers started troubling Saptha kanyas.Saptha Kanyas were distressed by this and cried out for help or someone to protect them, King Mamundi heard the noise and got on his horse and quickly came to the place and chased away all the goblins and beat them.

Saptha kanyas blessed King Mamundi saying that everyone will call you Nallannan because you have come and saved us like our co-born brother at the right time. Since then the deity of this temple is called by many names like Nallannan, Nallandavar and Mamundi.

This temple is a Shaiva-Vaishnava temple. Thiruneeru, Tulsi Theertha Tirupadam are offered here as prasadam to the devotees.
