The temple of Mata Bhadrakali located in Shekhupur village of Kapurthala district, which is one of the sacred and historical places of North India, is the main center of faith of the devotees. Before the partition of India and Pakistan in the year 1947, devotees of Mata Bhadrakali used to reach the Bhadrakali temple located in Shekhupur village of Lahore district of Pakistan to offer the flag and seek the blessings of the mother if their wishes were fulfilled.In the year 1947, Thakur Das Mehra had installed the idol of Mata Bhadrakali in Sheikhupur, Kapurthala. Pandit Dhani Ram worshiped the idol with proper rituals and chanting mantras. An interesting history of the temple is that after the wish of a Hindu soldier devotee living in the neighboring country of India was fulfilled, he wanted to offer one hour in the temple of Mata, but due to some reason the soldier could not fulfill his wish there. Meanwhile, Mother Bhadrakali told the soldier in his dream that now his residence has become in village Shekhupur, district Kapurthala of Punjab state of India, he should go to village Shekhupur in Kapurthala district of Punjab, to fulfill his wish. After his wish was fulfilled, the soldier presented a bell to Mata Bhadrakali temple in Shekupur, which is still present in the temple. Many idols of Maa Bhadrakali, Bajrang Bali, Bhairo ji, Shiv ji, Santoshi Mata, Lord Ganesha and many others are present in the temple.Every year a huge fair is being organized in the temple with the cooperation of the management committee and the residents of the area. This fair lasts for 2 to 3 days. Festivals like Dussehra, Deepawali, Navratri, Tulsi Vivah, Holi, Mahashivratri, Shri Krishna Janmashtami etc. are celebrated with great pomp in this temple.
