Adhyatmic Stories

Names of those brothers of Lord Krishna who were killed by Kans in jail.

Share

There was a mighty Kshatriya named Shurasen in Yaduvansh. His wife’s name was Marisha. He had ten sons.

Vasudevji was his best son. He was married to seven daughters of Devak.

Vasudevji had seven wives Pauravi, Rohini, Bhadra, Madira, Rochana, Ila and Devaki.

Maharaj Ugrasen had a brother, his name was Devak. Devkiji was his daughter. Devkiji had eight sons:

Kirtiman, Sushen, Bhadrasen, Riju, Samardan, Bhadra, Sankarshan and the eighth Lord Shri Krishna himself.

Vasudev Devkiji also had a daughter named Subhadra. Kansa was Devkiji’s cousin. She was younger than Kansa.

As soon as Devkiji’s six sons were born, the cruel Kansa killed them one by one. Mahamaya placed Devkiji’s seventh womb in the womb of Vasudevji’s second wife Rohini. Hence his name was ‘Sankarshan’.

Lord Vishnu himself was born from the womb of Devaki as the eighth son.

Before entering the womb, Shri Vishnu said this: When Shri Lord Vishnu appeared in the four-armed form in front of Vasudev Devkiji in the prison, he said, Goddess Swayambhuva, your name in Manvantar was Prishni. Vasudevji was the creator named Sutapa.

Both of you pleased me by performing rigorous penance for the gods for twelve thousand years. Because both of you had always felt for me in your hearts through penance, faith and loving devotion, I appeared to grant you the boon.

I said whatever you wish, ask from me, then both of you asked for a son like me. At that time I became the son of both of you by the name of ‘Prishnigarbha’.

Then in the second birth you became Aditi and Vasudev became Kashyap. Even at that time I was your son. My name was ‘Upendra’. Because of my small body, people also called me ‘Vaman’.

Even in this third birth of yours, I have again become your son in the same form. After telling many things in this way, Vishnu explained and at the request of Mother Devaki, he assumed the form of a child.

Lord Krishna in the form of Vishnu had eight wives – Rukmani, Jambavanti, Satyabhama, Kalindi, Mitrabinda, Satya, Bhadra and Lakshmana. Ten sons were born from all the above wives.

1. Sons of Shri Krishna Rukmini: Pradyumna, Charudeshna, Sudeshna, Charudeh, Sucharu, Charugupta, Bhadracharu, Charuchandra, Vicharu and Charu.

2. Jambavati Krishna’s sons and daughters: Samba, Sumitra, Purujit, Shatajit, Sahastrajit, Vijay, Chitraketu, Vasuman, Dravid and Kratu. It was because of Samba that the Krishna clan was destroyed. Samba married Duryodhana’s daughter Lakshmana.

3. Satyabhama Krishna’s sons and daughters: Bhanu, Subhanu, Swarbhanu, Prabhanu, Bhanuman, Chandrabhanu, Vridhabhanu, Atibhanu, Sribhanu and Pratibhanu.

4. Kalindi Krishna’s sons and daughters: Shruta, Kavi, Vrish, Veer, Subahu, Bhadra, Shanti, Darsh, Purnamas and Somak.

5. Mitravinda Shri Krishna’s sons and daughters: Vrik, Harsh, Anil, Gridhra, Vardhan, Annad, Mahans, Pavan, Vahni and Kshudhi.

6. Lakshmana Shri Krishna’s sons and daughters: Praghosh, Gatravan, Singh, Bal, Prabal, Urdhvag, Mahashakti, Saha, Oja and Aparajit.

7. Satya Shri Krishna’s sons and daughters: Veer, Chandra, Ashwasen, Chitragupta, Vaegavan, Vrish, Aam, Shanku, Vasu and Kunti.

8. Bhadra Shri Krishna’s sons and daughters: Sangramjit, Vrihatsen, Shura, Prahran, Arijit, Jai, Subhadra, Vama, Ayu and Satyaka.

Out of all the above, only the dynasty of Pradyumna’s son Aniruddha and Aniruddha’s son Vajra continued. Brajmandal is inhabited only by Vajra.
