Narsingh Mandir Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh

Share

This temple was built by Jat chieftains in the 18th century and the idol of Narsinghji was installed. The grand temple of Narsinghji, the human incarnation of Lord Vishnu, located in the district headquarters is worth seeing.

Narsinghpur was known as Gadaria Kheda hundreds of years ago. Hundreds of years ago the landlords had built a temple of Lord Narasimha here. Since then its name changed. It came to be known as Narsinghpur.

This temple was built about 500 years ago by Jat landlord Nathan Singh. Nathan Singh came here from Bulandshahr in UP. According to folklore, the king of Nagpur had announced a reward for the capture and handing over of the Pindaris chieftain. The brave warrior Nathan Singh captured the leader of the Pindaris and presented him before the king. Then the king gave him 200 horsemen and 80 villages as a reward. After this he built a temple of his presiding deity Lord Narasimha. After this, Narsinghpur city was established at the same place.

This temple of Lord Narasimha located in Narsinghpur is about 500 years old. The temple is unique in many ways. The biggest specialty is that the idol installed in the temple is seated in the place built in the sanctum sanctorum. The statue of Narasimha has been placed at such a place that whether seen from close or from a distance, it can be seen from all sides. The statue seated on three pillars is visible from all directions. The temple also has a tunnel and a basement which is opened for darshan only on Narasimha Jayanti.
