Nityananda And Narasimha Temple Manipur

Share

Nityananda (1474 CE), was a Vaishnava saint, famous as a primary religious figure within the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition of Bengal, is an expansion of Balarama. Nityananda was Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s friend and disciple. They are often mentioned together as Gaura-Nitai (Gaura, “golden one”, referring to Chaitanya, Nitai being a shortened form of Nityananda) Followers often refer to Nityananda as ‘Sri Nityananda’, ‘Prabhu Nityananda’ or ‘Nityananda Rama’.
According to Gaudiya-Vaishnava tradition Nityananda is an incarnation of Balarama, with Chaitanya Mahaprabhu being his eternal brother and friend, Krishna. He is considered the ‘most merciful’ incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Nityananda Prabhu was born to a religious brahmin, known as Pandit Hadai Ojha and Padmavati in Ekachakra (a small village in Birbhum district of present West Bengal) around the year 1474.
Narasimha is an avatar of the Vishnu, Krishna and one of most popular deities, as evidenced in early epics, iconography, and temple and festival worship for over a millennium.
Narasiṁha is often visualised as half-man/half-lion, having a human-like torso and lower body, with a lion-like face and claws. This image is widely worshipped in deity form by a significant number of Vaiṣṇava groups. He is known primarily as the ‘Great Protector’ who specifically defends and protects his devotees in times of need. Vishnu is believed to have taken the avatar to destroy the demon king Hiranyakashipu.
Due to the nature of Narasimha’s form (divine anger), it is essential that worship be given with a very high level of attention compared to other deities. In many temples only lifelong celibates (Brahmācārya) will be able to have the chance to serve as priests to perform the daily puja.
