Trilingeshwar Mahadev Temple/Bhringareshwor Mahadev Lalitpur,Nepal
The Trilingeshwar Mahadev Temple, also known as Bhringareshwor Mahadev Temple, is a significant Shiva temple located in Sunakothi, Lalitpur district, Nepal, believed to predate the Pashupatinath Temple.
Bhringishwor,temple is a temple of Bhagawan Shiva. It is one among the ancient 64 Shivalinga of Himvatkhanda. It is located at Sunakothi, Kanti lokpath (Satdobato- Tikabhairab Road), Lalitpur.
The stone inscription around the temple indicates that it was built during Lichhavi period. The 5th century stone describes the location was then called Bhringar Grama. The Brahma sect Shivaling is about 3 feet high and slightly sloping. The temple complex is large and well maintained. The huge trident and Nandi (Holy bull) made from stone are also installed in the temple complex. Temple complex also has the statue of Hanuman, Chardham and Jalasayi Narayan statue. The nearby Balkumari temple is also a religious destination for the devotees.
According to myth related to Sunakothi, when the local temple of Swornapur Mandir [Bhringareshwor Mahadev] was worshipped wearing a Kush Ring (a ring made out of Holy grass), it turned into a gold ring which translates to Sunko Authi in Nepali. Thus the name of the place is said to have gradually changed into Sunakothi from Sunko Authi.
One of the big temple complexes dedicated to lord shiva. the stone threshold is probably the biggest in whole Nepal. the wooden struts is proof for its grand stature of tiered style in contrary to the present day reconstructed dome styled one.
