Shivling calculation and their names

In the Samarangana Sutradhar it is said that on increasing by two degrees each, reaching the length of three cubits, nine Lingas are formed:—

“Dvayanshavruddha navaivam syurahattrityaavadhe.”

Similarly, the Surya-written “Anshumadbhedagama,” the Agni Purana (Chapter 45, Verse 28), and Vishwakarma’s “Shilpaprakasha” provide detailed enumerations of gender distinctions, listing a total of 14,400. Vishwakarma’s other treatise, “Aparajit-Prichha,” sheds further light on these distinctions, stating their total number at 14,420.

The explanation of this topic is as follows:

The minimum dimension of a stone Shivalinga is one cubit, no less. Its maximum dimension is considered to be nine cubit. Thus, the number of lingas ranging from one cubit to nine cubit is nine.

Their classification should be understood as follows:

Shivalingas from one to three cubits in size are called “youngest.”
Those from four to six cubits in size are considered “medium.”
Those from seven to nine cubits in size are called “superior” or “elder.”
By increasing these three categories by a quarter, there are a total of 33 lingas.

For example:

One cubit, one and a quarter cubit, one and a half cubit, two cubit, two and a quarter cubit, two and a half cubit, three and a quarter cubit, three cubit, three and a quarter cubit, three and a half cubit, four and a quarter cubit, four cubit, four and a quarter cubit, four and a half cubit, five and a quarter cubit, five cubit (and so on up to nine cubit).

Vishvakarma has named these thirty-three Lingas in the following order:

1. Bhava
2. evolution
3. expressions
4. destruction of the world
5. looped
6. Mahatej
7. Mahadev
8. transcendent
9. God
10. Sekhar
11. Shiva
12. quiet
13. anticonvulsant
14. Rudratej
15. positive(vegetative)
16. Vamdev
17. Aghor
18. Tatpurusha
19. Ishaan

27. eloquent
28. umatej
29. Vishweshwar
30. Trinetra
31. Trimbak
32. severe
33. Mahakal

By increasing the number by a foot in the above sequence, the number reaches 65.
Incrementing by two fingers in the same sequence, the number becomes 97.
Incrementing by one finger, the number reaches 193.

▪️︎ By increasing the number by a quarter of a half finger, the number reaches 385.
▪️︎ By increasing the value of each moong (mudg) by one, the number becomes 1442.
▪️︎ And by dividing each of these into ten, the total number becomes 14420.
