Shree Nag Devta Mela Manjitha Barabanki
Brief history of Shri Nag Devta Mela Manjitha Dham
The glory of Shri Nag Devta Temple is very great! It is too little to be expressed in words or any amount of praise.
It is a matter of very ancient times that there were trees named Manjith at the place of the temple, a color and medicine named Manjith was found in those trees. That’s why its name changed from Manjith to Majitha! Due to the huge Ghana forest here, nothing was visible. Once upon a time, one day someone’s cow in the village went into the forest and after a long time it did not return to the village, so the villagers gathered courage and went to the forest to search for the cow. When the villagers reached, they saw that cows were bathing in our lake and a saint was meditating on the banks of the lake. The villagers came back to their village with the cows and all the villagers together thought of calling the saint to the village to give them respect and everyone went to the saint and put this proposal in front of him, but the saint refused the proposal and they left the village. Didn’t go! Then the saint said that if you have to show respect then do it to the snake god, he has been sitting here in this Bambi (small tunnel) for many years. And there is a Puraniya (pond) next to it, take bath in it and offer milk and rice in an earthen pot to the snake god with reverence, all of you will be blessed and the most special thing is that today is Guru Purnima of Asadha, what a holy day it is and a special thing. That here the person will become free from snake venom! Respecting the words of the saint, all the villagers did the same. Since then, a fair is organized as a festival on Guru Purnima of Asadha. And that saint belonged to the Naga sect, hence everyone started calling him Nagadas Baba. And after a few years, the saint became a Brahmalin and his Samadhi was built there. Since then this tradition is celebrated every year in the form of Shri Nag Devta Mela Manjitha Dham.
