Sri Hanuman Temple is located at Auli in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.Though this temple of Lord Hanuman is small but it is believed to be very powerful and the temple is also linked with the epic of Ramayana.
This hill temple of Lord Hanuman is built on the place where Lord Hanuman had rested during his trval from Lanka to Himalayas to fetch the sanjeevini herbs to save Laxman.
Chamoli is associated with several legends and the picturesque place has an air of spirituality. Hanuman is believed to have picked the Sanjeevani herb from Chamoli that was required to revive the unconscious Laxman. It is also believed that the great epic Mahabharata was written by Ved Vyas in Chamoli district.
According to the legend it is believed when battle broke out between Ravana’s demon army and Rama’s (vanara sena) army. Laxman was so badly wounded in the battle it seemed that he would die before sun-rise.The monkeys and bears decided that Hanuman must leap to the Himalayas and bring back the healing herb Sanjeevani from the Medicine Mountain to save Laxman’s life. Lord Rama asked Hanuman to get this from the Himalayas, Lord Hanuman flew from Lanka and during his way to Sanjeevani mountain he took some rest in Auli before continuing his journey.According to the legends the temple has been constructed on the place where Hanuman took rest.
