Raja Rajeshwari Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Sri Rajarajeshwari and is located in Durgamitta, Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh state.
Rajarajeshwari – prominently known as Goddess Lalita, is considered as the Hindu Goddess of beauty and enjoyment. She comes in the third position among the Dasha Mahavidyas and also known by the names Tripurasundari and Shodashi.
Goddess Rajarajeshwari killed and defeated many demons in many kalpas, hence, is known as Aparajitha Devi, one who cannot be defeated. Rajarajeswari Devi is gnana swaroopini (the embodiment of Gnana or wisdom). The Trimurthis – Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara are the lords of Ashta Digpalakas.
History
In the year 1965, Arul Jyothi Nagaraja Murthy, who is Sri Rajarajeshwari Peetadhipathi located in Arcot district of Tamil Nadu state was going to Vijayawada.He took rest at Durgamitta and felt the presence of Goddess Rajarajeswari in the opposite open land and asked his local Nellore disciples to construct a temple in that open land.
Sri Ratnaswamy Mudaliar is the founder of Sri Rajarajeshwari temple who has taken permission from the District Collector to construct the present temple.
Devi Navaratrulu (Dasara) is the most festival celebrated in this temple. Thousands of devotees throng temple on these holy days. The temple will be crowded on festival days, Navaratri festival days, Karthika Masam.
The temple is known for Rahu Kala Deepam. It is believed that wishes will be fulfilled if the lemon-ghee lamp is lit during Rahu Kalam every Friday for 18 weeks. Devotees used to lit lamps in the temple premises and perform pradakshinam to the deity. Chandi Homam will be performed daily.
