Know why this temple is called Mama -Bhajan Temple
Barsur is a small village in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh state. Somebody also calls it Barsur. The historic city of Bastar, Barsur, has the distinction of being the capital of Nagavanashi kings. This Jagdalpur Dantewada road is 23 km from Geedam. Is far away. The famous maternal uncle -bhanja temple located here. There is no board here to give official information about when this temple was built and made, but if the local people believe, this temple is hundreds of years old. Famous known as Mama -bhanja, the family of Lord Shiva is established in this ancient temple. It is said that this temple was constructed by two craftsmen in a single day. These craftsmen were maternal uncle and nephew in the relationship. This is the reason that this temple is called Mama -Bhanja Temple.
According to another Janashruti, there was an empire of the Gang dynasty king in Barsur. The king’s nephew was an art lover. It started calling a craftsman from Utkal country without telling his maternal uncle Raja and built a grand temple. When the king came to know about this, he got very jealous and tortured by calling his nephew. Bhanja came into charge and killed his maternal uncle. Later he regretted a lot. For repentance, he installed the same statue in this temple by making his head shape. Therefore, this temple was built in memory of maternal uncle. After this, after the death of the nephew, the idol was installed in his memory in the temple. Thus, due to both this idol, it is called Mama-Bhaja Temple. Some scholars call it to be an ancient Shiva temple.
