Bageshwarnath Temple Payagpur Bahraich
Pandavas took shelter in Bageshwarnath temple
Bahraich: The Pandavas had taken refuge in exile in the Shiva temples located in the dense forests of Payagpur and Visheshwarganj. The Shivalingas of the Pandava period refresh the memories of time gone by. In view of the mythological importance of this place in the month of Sawan, devotees gather in large numbers at the break of dawn for Jalabhishek.
Baba Bageshwar Nath Temple – It is said about Baba Bageshwar Nath Temple, located on Hujurpur Road from Payagpur Bus Stand, that all the five Shiva Lingas located here were established by the Pandavas. Along with the temple, the very ancient banyan tree also reminds of the past. The architecture of the temple is octagonal. In the survey conducted by the Indian Archaeological Department, the appearance of the present temple has been said to be more than three hundred years old. Its present form was built by the then Payagpur royal family. On the occasion of Kajri Teej, people from nearby districts come here with Kanwar to offer Saryu water. It is a popular belief that the Shiva Linga installed in the Arghe is installed deep beneath the ground, which came into its present form with the passage of time.
