Biruabari temple, one of the major temples of the city, is quite old. According to the elders, a gardener named Birua used to do farming at this place about 200 years ago. It is said that once when he used a plow to plow the crop, it got stuck at a place in the field. When this happened again and again, Birua dug there.
After digging, Shivalinga was found here. After that he built a Mathiya there and started worshiping. He served at this place for a long time. According to the elders, in the year 1932, he handed over the responsibility of this Mathiya to Lala Harsahaymal Shyamlal Saraf. After this, in 1984, renovation of the temple was started giving it a bigger look. Since then it came to be known as Biruabari Temple after the name of Birua Mali.
