Nagla Temple: Here Kali Mata is riding on a lion.
Badaun. Devi Shakti Peeth situated in Nagalasharki adjacent to the city has a different history. This temple of Kali Mata riding on a lion has been the main center of revolutionary activities in the district. They used to sit here and make revolutionary plans against the British rule.
Nagla temple is the main goddess temple of the district. There is a huge crowd of devotees here during both the Navratras of the year. This is one of the most ancient goddess temples of the district. Apart from religious activities, this temple is also seen to be associated with the freedom movement. Mahatma Gandhi came to Badaun in 1921 and 1929 during the freedom struggle. This further increased the enthusiasm among the revolutionaries of the district. After this, the revolutionaries used to hold meetings in a garden in Naglasharki. There was an idol of the goddess made of clay here. The revolutionaries used to sit near this statue under the pretext of chanting so that the British government would not get suspicious. Later it was converted into a temple. The temple remained the center of the freedom movement for many years.
Mahant Shivaom Sharma of the temple tells that there is a grand statue of Kali Mata near the ancient clay idol of Nagla temple. Kali Maa is riding on a lion here which is not found in any other temple in the country.After the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled in the temple, they offer bells and also get taps installed. Mahant Shivaom told that his family has been living here for 17 years. The faith of devotees regarding the temple is continuously increasing.
