Chakareshwar/Shri Chakleshwar Mahadev Temple,Govardhan
When Lord Krishna stopped worshiping Lord Indra and started worshiping Govardhan Mountain, Indra got angry and ordered the cloud garlands to destroy Brajbhoomi by washing it away. Seeing the heavy rain, the people of Braj got scared and requested Kanha for protection. To protect the people of Braj from the wrath of Indra, Lord Shri Krishna sought help from Lord Ashutosh Shankar and called him to Braj. Shankarji came to Brajbhoomi and rotated his trident like a wheel over Brajmandal and dried up the heavy rain water with it.
Indra kept raining for seven days and seven nights, but Shiva’s trident kept drying it. Indra’s honor was shattered by this act of God. After this, Shri Krishna installed Lord Shankar, who came to protect the people of Braj, in Govardhan Dham by the name of Chakrashwar, on the banks of Mansi Ganga. To the north of Mansi Ganga is the temple of Chakreshwar Mahadev. He is also known as Chakaleshwar Mahadev.
