Chand Bhairav Termple is located in Varanasi( Kashi) in the premises of Kushmanda Durga Temple.Chand Bhairava is the third among the Ashta Bhairavas that protect the holy city and its devotees.
The Ashta Bhairava are the eight manifestations of the Hindu god Bhairava a ferocious aspect of Shiva. They are regarded to guard and control the eight cardinal directions. Each of the Ashta Bhairava is regarded to preside over eight subordinate Bhairavas, totalling 64 Bhairavas. The Ashta Bhairva are described to be subordinate to Kalabhairava, who is considered the supreme ruler of time in the universe and the chief form of Bhairava.
Legend
Legend talks about Lord Shiva creating Kaal Bhairav following the death of the demon Dahurasuran. The demon once received a boon that he would meet his end only in the hands of a woman. Hence, Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva invoked Mother Kali to kill Dahurasuran. Kali killed the demon effortlessly with her wrath.
As soon as the demon was slayed, her wrath took the form of a child and Kali calmed down. Kali then fed the child with her milk. Lord Shiva merged Kali and the child within him. Kala Bhairav appeared from this merged form of the Lord and his eight forms or Ashta Bhairavas took birth from this form.
Shri Chand Bhairava is a Trinetri (Three-Eyed), kind And young form of Lord Bhairava.This form of Lord Bhairava Is blue-skinned and believed to possess Supreme Powers. It Is believed that Lord Chand Bhairava blesses his devotees with incredible energy so that they can win iver their rivals. He is believed to be the Guardian of South Direction.
