Hathurasi Temple
There is a temple of Shiva in Hathrasi Devi Temple near Surangpura village situated near the famous Dauji Maharaj temple. Its story is related to Dwapar era. Lord Shankar and Parvati stayed here while going to Gokul. It was here that Mother Parvati rested and Lord Shiva gave Mother Parvati the juice of the leaves of the tree. This is why the city got its name Hathras. There is a temple of both Devi and Shankar here.
History of the temple
This temple is situated between Nayabans and Surangpura. Where there was forest all around, today there is population here and houses have been built. There is a legend about the Shivalinga present here that it emerged from the ground. During digging of the land, when spade touched Shivalinga, a stream of milk started flowing. Everyone was shocked to see this and the workers also ran away. Later when seen it turned out to be Shivalinga. Who was made to sit here. There is also an ancient well where bathing of children cures many diseases. People throng here on Shivratri and even on Mondays of Sawan, there is a crowd of people at the Shiva temple. Even today these marks are visible on Shivalinga and a grand temple is built here. There are some ancient statues here and a temple of Hathurasi Maiya is also built near the Shiva temple.
