Karneshwar Nath/Kalanaur Shiv Mandir Gurudaspur,Punjab
The old Shiv Mandir exudes an ancient charm, with its weathered build and timeless architecture. Stepping inside, one feels a sense of reverence, as if the walls themselves hold centuries of devotion. The sanctum sanctorum, housing the sacred lingam, is the focal point, radiating spiritual energy. Despite its age, the temple maintains its spiritual significance, drawing devotees seeking solace and blessings from Lord Shiva. While the passage of time may have left its mark, the essence of devotion within these hallowed walls remains eternal.
Kalanaur Shiv Mandir is an ancient and sacred temple that offers immense peace of mind to visitors. It is widely believed that the Shivling here grows in size on its own. During recent the Shivling was much smaller when 10-15 years ago.
The temple has an interesting history. It is said that during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar his army’s camp was near this temple. Whenever a horse crossed the area, it would become lame. Initially Akbar blamed his stablemen but when his own horse became lame at the same spot he ordered the area to be excavated. A black stone (the Shivling) was found, and attempts to remove it were unsuccessful. When attacked with weapons, the stone would bleed and a divine voice declared “I am Shiva.” Akbar then built this temple as instructed.
On Shivaratri the temple becomes very crowded as devotees from distant places visit to pay their respects. If you are interested in history or ancient temples Kalanaur Shiv Mandir is definitely worth a visit.
