Koteshwar Mahadev Mandir Jharipada Kod Badnawar Madhya Pradesh

Share

The temple of Lord Shankar located at Koteshwar Mahadev, located just 4 km from Kod village of Dhar district, 80 km from Ujjain, about 20 km from Badnawar, is the center of attraction. It is said about the Shivalinga situated among the stones about 200 feet below the ground that it is the Bhu Shivalinga itself. At this place covered with natural beauty, the stream of water keeps flowing for the remaining 10 months except during summer. Which takes the form of a pond near Shivalinga. Trees and plants naturally provide shade to this Shivalinga and the entire complex.

On a wall located in this temple complex which is about 900 years old, it has been said that it was constructed in Vikram Samvat 501. Here is also the tomb of Sukal Bharti ji, who worshiped Lord Shiva. The arrangements here are handled by the residents of 40 nearby villages. Akhand Ramdhun is continuing in the temple premises since 19 May 2002. A group of 10-15 devotees from each village reaches here daily and chants Akhand Ramdhun from 12 noon till 12 noon the next day. Every day, a group comes for Ramdhun from one village out of the 40 villages, whose traveling expenses of Rs 1500 per day are paid by the temple trust, and food is also arranged for the group singing Ramdhun. Free tea is always available in the temple premises for every visitor visiting the temple.

There is also an ancient rock located inside the temple which has a big hole in the middle. It is believed that no matter how unrighteous and sinful a person may be, if he takes out his body from inside this rock after having darshan of Koteshwar Mahadev. He gets freedom from all sins.

There is a small water pond above the temple itself, which is always filled with water, but where this water comes from is not visible even after searching far and wide. In this pond, water is found coming from one side, which is said to be the water of Narmada which meets the Ganga water situated in the pond. There is also a belief that here Ganga and Mother Narmada together perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva.
