Baijnath Mahadev Temple of Badnawar is 1500 years old
Badnavar city has been a big center of religion and faith. Before the medieval period, Badnavar was known as Vardhamanpur. In the famous pilgrimage Koteshwar Mahadev Dham, Lord Shri Krishna rested here during Rukmani Haran and established Shivalinga with his own hands. The names of some villages here are also the characters of Mahabharata like Bhimpura, Arjunkhedi etc.
Similarly, the study of archaeological remains found here has revealed that there was a lot of movement of followers of Jainism here in the fifth century. Similarly, the Oriya style Baijnath Mahadev temple built in the sixth century has become the identity of the city.
Located at the entrance of the city, the stone-built temple of Baba Baijnath Mahadev, about one and a half thousand years old, is the center of faith for thousands of devotees. In the month of Shravan, there is a continuous flow of devotees from morning to evening. On special occasions, makeup is done with hemp and Panchmeva, Akshat, Mawa, flowers, Bilva leaves etc.
People’s wishes are fulfilled just by seeing Shivalinga. The altar, Jangha and Shikhar of the Baijnath Mahadev Temple are excellent examples of the Bhumij style in this temple, as per the Shilpa Shastra. The figures of deities are carved with beautiful carvings on the temple.
The temple is also said to be of Parmar period. It is known as Oriya Temple among the local people. Therefore, this ancient building has been preserved by the Archeology Department since 1984.
1100 years ago an ascetic was blowing up the temple, so it had to be established here.

There is a legend that in ancient times, some ascetic was carrying this temple with his help, but as soon as the time of sunrise came, he had to install it here.
Being built in Oriya style, it is also known as Oriya temple. Namp organizes a fair every year in the name of the temple. The last royal ride of Bholenath in Sawan with panoramic tableaux and amazing acts of Akharas is also included in the major cultural festivals here. Apart from Shivratri and Shravan month, a large number of visitors gather here.
