Story of appearance of Padhya Mata-
The story of the appearance of the Mother Goddess and the construction of the temple is as follows, which has been going on since ancient times. There are two Kaira trees at the rear of the temple premises. Mother appeared here. In ancient times, this place was completely forest, cows used to come here to graze. Among those cows, Seth’s cow named Bhainsa also used to come to graze and sit under the Kair tree. In the evening, when the cow would go, a girl would appear from that tree and drink the milk of that cow.This sequence continued for many days. One day Seth asked the cowherd that who milks the cow, when the cowherd expressed ignorance, Seth asked him to provide information. In the evening the cowherd saw that a girl came from the Kair tree and drank milk from the udder of the cow. The cowherd told Seth what he saw. Seth did not believe the words of the cowherd and one day he himself went there in the evening. Seth was surprised to see that a girl was born from the tree and started milking the cow.Seth immediately went to that place and asked the girl, ‘Who are you?’ Then the girl said that I am Adishakti. Now I will appear. You became my temple. When Seth told that he was financially incapable, the girl said, ‘Row your horse, don’t look back. There will be a silver mine as far as your horse runs.
Seth made his horse run. At the same time the earth started trembling. Seth got scared by this and looked back. The goddess appeared from the Kair tree and remained there. Seth returned and bowed to his mother and said that if this place became full of silver then people would loot it. Therefore, if you are kind to me, then give me such a thing by which I and my children can earn a living without fear. Hearing this, Mother converted that place into a mine of raw silver (salt mine). Since then there is a salt mine here.
According to the inscription located in the temple, the temple was constructed in V.S. In 902, Asoj Sudi was performed by Bhainsa Seth on 9th Thursday. According to an inscription dated 1765, a British officer had built the verandah.
There are two idols in the temple of Mata, the idol in front is the idol of Mata in the girl form and the idol next to it is of Mata in the form of Mahishasura-Mardini. There is a statue of Bhairavnath on his left side.During the time of Aurangzeb, both the idols of Mata remained safe but the idols on the outer part of the temple were destroyed. The mother chased away the terrorists in the form of a girl, due to which the original idols of the temple could remain safe.
