Sonana Khetlaji Temple Sarangwas, Rajasthan
The origin of Shri Sonana Khetlaji (Gora Bheruji) and Shri Kala Bheruji is from Kashi, from Kashi Baapji came to Mandore (Jodhpur), here Kala Gora is seated with Maa Brahmini, Maa Chamunda and Ganesh ji, from Mandore he came to Tiki Pahari and here. From Sonana (Juni Dham) and from Sonana come to Sarangwas (Navi Dham).
Khetlaji i.e. black-fair Bhairuji is a place in Mul Kashi. Bavasi came from Kashi to Mandovar (Jodhpur) which is today considered as Badi Gadi. There Bavasi reached the land of Marwar Godwad and settled in Tiki hill cave near Ana, 7 km from Dasuri. Then priest Kedaria The family used to live in the nearby village Sonana, Bavasi came in a dream and said
“Hai bhakt mu kalo goro bhairu mari seva puja the sab jaana karola mu tiki mountain cave me birajyodo hu”
Since then, Seva Puja was started by the priest family, they served Bavasi for some years, then due to the hilly area and dense forest, there was a danger of wild animals, hence Seva Puja was stopped. Due to not worshiping Bavasi for some days, Bavasi came to Sonana and sat in the cave in the form of a snake. Then in the dream of the priest, he came in the form of a snake and said
“O priest, I am pleased with your service and worship, I have come to your village, I have come from your home, I am sitting in a cave in the form of a snake, please do my worship.”
Then Sonana Dham became famous and Seva Puja was performed by the priest family for many years.
Bavasi Kshetrapal Khetpal became famous by the names Bherubaba Khetlaji etc. Then nature changed its course, the priest family due to some reason started living in the nearby village Sarangwas and under the mountain cave of Sarangwas, our ancestor mother sati and the whole family settled in Sarangwas, then from Bavasi Sonana. Khetlaji reached Sarangwas via the river between Sarangwas. Then Bavasi had to sit in the cave and Mother Brahmani ji was already sitting in the cave. So Bavasi played a trick and after reaching Mother Brahmani in the cave, he said –
“O mother, I am your son (son) Khetlo.
Let’s take a dip in the river with you.”
Then Mataji went down to the river with Khetlaji and asked who dives for a longer time, then both of them took the dip, Mataji was in the river and Bavasi ran and sat in the cave and Mataji saw where Khetlaji was and came up to the cave. I saw that Khetlaji was sitting, then Khetlaji said
“O Mother Mu Tharo Lal, please forgive me. In the coming Kaliyuga, my abode will become famous and people of my clan will come here to visit and offer jaat Jadolia.”
“Hey Ma, whichever traveler comes to my feet or goes to Sherabandi and if he has a son, comes to Jadoliya (Babri), then he will get equal enjoyment with me and whoever comes for darshan, he will offer two coconuts, one for you and one for me.”
In Sarangwas, there is a temple of Khetlaji in a snake-shaped cave above and a temple of Ma Brahmani below.
Then Bavasi came in the priest’s dream and said
“O priest, am I happy that you served me in the white fields?”
Only you Kedaria family will worship me and you will do the same in the coming Kaliyuga and I am sitting in the mountain cave of Sarangwas with Maa Brahmani. When the priest woke up in the morning and looked in that mountain cave, Lord Ganesha was sitting with Hanumanji and Maa Brahmani. Since then puja started in Sarangwas and Sonana Khetlaji Dham became famous in the name of Sarangwas, Sonana and Sarangwas were called two Dhams, Sonana was called Juni Dham and Sarangwas was called Nayi Dham, the main place remained in Sarangwas only.
There is a snake-shaped natural cave temple of Khetlaji in Sonana and Sarangwas.
Bavasi in Sarangvas has been worshiped by devotees for more than 600 years.
In the year 1447, Maharaja Raimalji of Chittor had offered a copper plate to the priest family Kedaria family and in the year 1974-75, organized Chetra Shudi Aikam, a two-day fair of seeds.
