Takshakeshwar Nath: Know the amazing secret of this 5 thousand years old temple
Allahabad. The famous Takshakeshwar Nath temple situated on the banks of Yamuna in Sangam city is the only Takshak pilgrimage site in the world. Presently this place falls in Daryabad area. This place has been preserved since ancient times and the remains of Sheshnag are still present here. This was a Shivalinga established in the vast dense forests on the banks of Yamuna. However, in materialism the forest has now ceased to exist. This place in Prayagraj is famous by the name of “Big Shivala”. The antiquity and mythology of this Shivalinga itself is recorded in the Puranas. Taksheshwar Nath is mentioned in the 82nd chapter of Prayag Mahatamya of 82 Patal section of Padma Purana.It is believed that whoever visits Lord Shiva in this temple, he and his descendants never get bitten by a snake. That means he becomes free from the obstacle of snake venom.
Mythological story of Takshakeshwar Nath: Temple priest Shri Ravi Shankar ji, while narrating the mythology of this temple, tells that the history of Takshakeshwar Nath temple is more than 5000 years old.Which is mentioned in the 82nd chapter of Prayag Mahatamya of 82 Patal section of Padma Purana. According to the legend, when King Parikshit was bitten by the snake Takshak, these five idols were installed as an atonement and a boon was given that whoever visited this temple, his descendants would never suffer from the snake. Poison will not be a hindrance. According to another legend, after being driven away from Mathura by Lord Krishna, Takshak Nag had resided at this place, which is known as Takshak Kund. It is told in the Puranas that Takshak is the lord of the entire snake race. In Kaliyuga, Shri Takshak is the chief and since ancient times, he has been residing in the capital of religion, Tirtharaj Prayag. It is also said in the scriptures that Takshakeshwar Nath Prayag is the main place for peace of Kaal Sarpyoga, Mahadasha of Rahu, freedom from Nagadosha and poison obstacles.Narrative of the modern era: The renovation of Takshakeshwar Nath temple in Prayagraj started in 1992 with the efforts of veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, and some remains of the mythological period were found during excavation here. During the excavation on January 20, 1992, many stones and ancient sculptures were found here and the intricate carvings on them were said to be older than the existing human civilization. The Archeology Department also observed the stones here and since they are the work of a very ancient civilization, research on them continues even today.The idol was stolen. Temple priest Shri Ravi Shankar ji tells that in the year 1981, there was theft in Shri Takshakeshwar Nath temple. The thieves had taken away the idol of Maa Durga. That idol was made of Ashtadhatu in the tenth century and its length was three and a half feet. After being stolen, on June 7, 1981, this statue was recovered with the smuggler at Palam Airport when the statue was being taken to New York for sale. At that time the price of the idol was fixed at Rs 1 crore. Snakes keep roaming around. Local people say that two decades ago, there used to be a huge increase in the number of snakes coming to Takshakeshwar Nath temple during the month of Sawan. But, snakes did not cause any harm to anyone. He used to return only after seeing Shiva. However, even at present, seeing snakes here is a very common phenomenon. It is believed that by seeing Shivalinga here one gets freedom from Kaalsarp Doshas.Such is the form that Takshakeshwar Nath Temple is situated on the banks of river Yamuna in Daryabad locality in the southern area of Allahabad city. Takshak Kund is also situated in Yamuna river at a short distance from this temple. A copper arghya is made around the linga of Takshakeshwar Mahadev. There is a snake god above the linga. There are small idols of Ganesha, Parvati and Kartikeya in the temple. There are Nandis outside. There is a statue of Hanuman ji in the premises.
