The 7 most dangerous and deceptive demons of Ramayana!
During the Ramayana period, not only force but also “Maya” (deceit and magic) prevailed. The demons faced by Lord Rama and Lakshmana possessed many invisible powers.
Let’s learn about the major illusionary demons of the Ramayana:
1️⃣ Ravana (Lankesh)
A skilled politician, a great scholar, and an expert in architecture, he was extremely arrogant. Ravana was adept at sorcery, tantra, hypnotism, and various forms of magic. His Pushpak Vimana and magical powers were the reasons why all three worlds feared him.
2️⃣ Kalanemi
Ravana’s most trusted and cunning henchman. Ravana sent this illusionist when Hanuman was on his way to retrieve the Sanjivani herb. Using his magic, he created a fake pond and a beautiful ashram along the way and, disguised as a sage, attempted to deceive Hanuman, but was ultimately killed.
3️⃣ Tadaka
Terror is synonymous with the beautiful forest (which was once prosperous). Disfigured by the curse of sage Agastya, Tadaka, along with her sons Maricha and Subahu, would disrupt the yagnas performed by the sages. Lord Rama killed her to protect Vishwamitra’s yagna.
4️⃣ Maricha
Son of Tadaka and Ravana’s maternal uncle. He was the deceptive demon who, at Ravana’s behest, assumed the form of a golden deer. This deception enabled the abduction of Sita. Ultimately, he was freed by Lord Rama’s arrow.
5️⃣ Kumbhakarna
Ravana’s giant brother, who was blessed (or cursed) by Brahma to sleep for six months and be awake for one day. When awakened during battle, he wreaked havoc on the monkey army. He was killed by Lord Rama himself.
6️⃣ Kabandha
A strange demon of the Dandaka Forest, lacking a head or neck, with only one eye in his belly. He assumed this form to frighten sages and was trapped in that form. Rama and Lakshmana freed him from the curse by cutting off his arms.
7️⃣ Meghnad (Indrajit)
Ravana’s most powerful son. He conquered heaven and earned the title of Indrajit. With the help of Shukracharya, he acquired Tamasi Maya and divine weapons. He could fight invisibly in battle. He was killed by Lakshmana, the incarnation of Shesha.
By putting an end to all these powerful and illusory demonic forces, Lord Shri Ram established Dharma.
